‘Thoughts’
Dreams/Memories

Jeff sat quietly on the bed. Their bed. Well, the bed that used to belong to them. But Adam was gone now, he wasn’t coming back. Jeff buried his face in his hands, wanting so badly to cry, to let out all his frustrations at the world. It was all thanks to Ariella that he felt like this now. ‘Dammit, if only she would have left us alone!’ Jeff thought, and immediately felt bad. Without her, he would never have had all the good times he had with Adam. But he also wouldn’t feel like shit right now. Man, Jeff really wished Adam, or Matt, or even Ariella were here. He needed someone to talk to really badly. He wanted someone who would hold him and tell him it was okay, and who wouldn’t judge him for crying. He really wasn’t feeling great now and Adam’s being pissed at him really didn’t help. He pulled out his cell phone, clicking out Ariella’s number before clicking it off again. He didn’t want to call her. He’d call Matt. The number was almost immediately erased again. He didn’t want to talk to anyone anymore. He wanted Adam’s arms around him again. Dammit, he’d even suffer through his overused cologne to be held in those strong arms again.

Jeff threw himself down on the bed, pressing his face into the pillow. He screamed, long and hard. It helped, somewhat, to scream. At himself, at Adam, at Ariella. Soon, he tired himself out and fell to sleep, tears running out of the corners of his eyes.

Jeff was walking through the hallway backstage to the locker room. He had to meet Ariella outside it. She had something important to say to him, she had told him earlier. Now, he rounded the corner to see Edge, Adam Copeland, standing outside the locker room door. No Arri in sight. “Hey, Jeff. Nice match tonight.” Adam said, leaning against the door with a slight smile. “Never saw you do so good. Undertaker is a sadist, I swear!”

“Hey, thanks, Adam. Yeah, I’m a little banged up right now. My back really hurts. Seen Arri? She said she needs to talk to me…”

“Funny, she said the same to me. Wonder where she is…” Adam replied, a pensive look on his handsome face.

They stood in silence for a few minutes, shuffling their feet and exchanging snippets of conversation with each other and with the others who walked down the hallway past them.

“You think we were stood up?” Adam asked the young Hardy quietly.

“Naw, Arri’s always pulling shit like this. She’ll be here.” Jeff said confidently, though he really wasn’t sure. Ariella was a little forgetful. “You know what? I’ll bet she forgot. She’s got a bad mind, you know. She probably forgot all about us.”

“Maybe. Want to just wait a little while more? Maybe she’ll show up.”

A little while later, Kane rounded the corner, making his way to pass the two men outside the locker room door.

“Hey, Kane! You seen Arri? She was supposed to meet us here but she hasn’t shown!” Jeff called out to the Big Red Machine.

“In our dressing room.” Kane said in his deep voice, walking off toward his aforementioned room. “Tell her you’re waiting.” He mumbled just loud enough for the men to hear.

It was slightly five minutes later that the woman they were waiting for showed up.

“Where were you?” Jeff asked her; slightly angered that she had left him with only Adam for company when they had a meeting planned.

“Dressing, geeze, is that a crime?! Besides, I had Adam here for you to talk to about…things…” She gave him her smile that would melt most normal men into a puddle of goo; however, Jeff was no normal man.

“Like what? Who’s the cutest celebrity? Ohmygosh, Adam, isn’t Johnny Depp just the cutest?! I mean, check out his muscles!” Jeff imitated the girls he had heard many times.

Adam laughed heartily, having never heard Jeff act like this. Jeff and Ariella laughed, too.

“Well, Kane and I have a date, so…If you don’t mind…” Ariella turned to leave as Adam grabbed her arm.

“You said you had something to tell us?” He said, looking into his friend’s eyes.

“Well…you’ll just have to wait. I thought Jeff would tell you…but I can see I hoped for too much. I really have to go!”

“Tell him what?” Jeff asked, confused.

Ariella just smiled and began to walk away ‘accidentally’ bumping Jeff into Adam and causing their lips to press together. She laughed and left the two shocked men in the hallway, unmoving.

The pulled apart quickly as they realized how they were standing.

“Whoa, what the hell was that?” Adam asked Jeff quietly, not angry or embarrassed; just curious.

“I-I don’t know…” Jeff replied, licking his lips slightly.

“Is it just me, or was that not an accident?”

“That was definitely NOT an accident.” Jeff said, looking at Adam from under his long lashes. “But…was that weird to you?”

“Sort of…I don’t know…Did you enjoy it?” Adam glanced at Jeff.

“A little bit…but it wasn’t like we did it on purpose…Right?”

“No, no, it wasn’t a purposeful thing, you’re right.”

They were silent for a bit. “Want to do it again?” Adam asked Jeff, watching him from the corner of his eye.

“Uhh…only if you do…” Jeff said, letting the Canadian man cup his cheek with a large hand.

Adam leaned closer, capturing Jeff’s lips with his own, a soft kiss on the mouth. Adam pulled back, opening an eye and glancing at Jeff. Jeff smiled and buried one hand deep in Adam’s long blond hair, pulling him back.

Another soft kiss, no tongues or teeth involved. Jeff gently opened his mouth to Adam, feeling the other man mirror his movements. Adam let his right hand continue to cup Jeff’s cheek while the other worked its way around the fishnet-clad man’s back. Jeff used the hand in Adam’s hair to pull the Canadian closer, his other arm snaking around the taller man’s neck. The broke apart for breath again, opening their eyes. They didn’t notice the hazel eyes on them from around the corner.

“Good job, boys…” Ariella whispered before she turned back to find Kane and get him out of the building.

Jeff pulled awake slowly, wishing his dream never had to end. He didn’t want to lose Adam again. As his eyes opened, he saw two sets of eyes on him. One was hazel, the other brown.

“Jeffy? Is it true that Adam broke up with you?” Ariella asked, sitting down on the bed by Jeff. “Jeff?”

Jeff turned from her; he didn’t want to talk about it.

“Jeff, are you okay?” Matt, his big brother asked him, sitting on his other side. He, too, put an arm around his little brother.

“I’m fine. You know, I don’t remember asking either of you to come here. I’ll sort it all out myself.” Jeff didn’t sound fine, his two comforters noted, each squeezing slightly closer to him. Jeff stood, already tired of these two and their stupid pity. He didn’t need pity right now, he needed Adam. “Can you guys just leave me be for tonight? If I need you, I swear, I’ll call.”

“Jeff…Are you sure you’re okay? I’m here for you.” Ariella said, standing next to her friend.

“I-I’m fine, Arri. Goddamn it, can you two please leave?” Jeff said, sitting back on the bed, facing away from them. Matt had heard his little brother’s voice crack and stood, knowing that Jeff was going to cry. Jeff hated looking weak and Matt knew it.

“Ariella? Let’s leave. Bree’s waiting for us, remember?” Matt said, taking Ariella’s arm. “Kane should be there, too, you know…”

“But…Jeff.” Ariella replied, looking back at the man hunched over on the side of the bed, face in his hands.

“Jeff’ll be fine, Ar. I know he will. He don’t want us here, anyway. Call me later, okay, bro?” Matt insisted, though he directed the last question to the purple and blue haired man.

Jeff just nodded, unable speak through the tears choking him.

Ariella sighed, but gave in anyway. The two left Jeff to himself. Jeff began to cry, tears sliding down his cheeks and into his hands. He remembered how Adam would wipe his tears away. He missed Adam so much!

Adam gently kissed Jeff’s lips, happy to have been with him for a month now. It was their one-month anniversary and they had a special date planned. “Ready to go?” He asked quietly.

“Yeah.” Jeff replied, kissing Adam’s lips and taking his hand. He got out of the chair and set his book on the table, opened somewhere near the middle.

“’Interview with the Vampire’ again?” Adam asked him with a laugh.

“I love that book, okay?” Jeff smiled, wrapping his arms around Adam’s midsection.

“Alright, babe. Whatever you say.” Adam laughed, hugging Jeff back.

Jeff smiled as the restaurant came into view. It was the same place they had gone to on their first date. Jeff’s eyes began to water, Adam had remembered. A single tear made its way down his cheek as he turned to look at his boyfriend.

Adam smiled at Jeff’s reaction, using one hand to pull Jeff forward. He slowly licked the tear from Jeff’s cheek, tracing its path back up the side of Jeff’s face. That made Jeff giggle and kiss Adam’s lips gently.

After their dinner, the two made their way back home, a soft love song playing in the background of the car.

That memory had always made Jeff smile, though, for some reason, he cried harder today. “Adam…” He moaned, seeing only long blond hair, bright blue eyes, and a big white smile. He could still feel Adam’s hair wrapped around his hand, his lips pressing gently against Jeff’s. Jeff could even smell Adam’s cologne. He tasted Adam’s tongue in his mouth. God, he even felt Adam inside him from the first time they’d made love; Adam’s fingers slowly caressing Jeff’s chest.

Jeff flung his shirt across the room, going into the shower. He would think about Adam later. He would call and apologize, telling his boyfriend that he had been stupid, he was wrong. Adam was the only one for him. Please let him understand. Jeff stepped into the warm water, scrubbing some shampoo into his multicolored hair.

The party was just for fun, just a party that had no reason. Adam and Jeff were there. So were Matt, Bree, Ariella, Kane, Jay, Chris Jericho, and many others. Adam had gone to get himself and Jeff something to drink, leaving Jeff to dance with their friends.

It was Chris who wanted to dance. Jeff let him, knowing Chris was a little tipsy. Soon, they were at the back of the room, talking and dancing. Then the unexpected happened. Chris kissed him! It wasn’t the soft, sweet, loving kisses he got from Adam. No, this was a hard, biting, bloody, beer-flavored kiss. Jeff didn’t like it. He didn’t like it rough. He liked Adam’s softness, his loving way. Chris was too fast, too forceful. All too soon, Jeff was pushed against the wall, Jericho’s arms on either side of his head. Chris kept biting, kept licking at Jeff’s open mouth.

Jeff didn’t want to be doing this, but he had almost no control over his body. One hand became tangled in Chris’s hair, the other settling itself in his back pocket. He kissed and bit back, completely forgetting Adam and living for this moment. Chris was a very good kisser, Jeff noted.

“Jeff?!” Adam called, sounding thoroughly confused and hurt.

Jeff pulled his face away from Chris’s, his bottom lip bleeding slightly. “Adam…It’s not what it looks like!” Jeff said, trying to break away from the blonde who still had him pinned to the wall. Adam ran off, leaving Jeff behind.

Chris grabbed Jeff’s arm, pulling him back. “You don’t need Adam, Hardy, you got me now.” Jericho kissed him again. Jeff pushed him away, running after his boyfriend.

Adam was gone.

Over the next two days, Adam wouldn’t answer his calls. He didn’t come home. Jeff was worried, he wanted to talk to Adam, tell him it wasn’t his idea, that he only wanted the Canadian with the blond hair and the loving kisses.

Jeff scowled and shut the water off. When he walked back into the room, clad only in a low-slung towel, he was surprised to see Adam in the bedroom.

“Dammit, I thought you were out.” Adam said, looking up for only a second before continuing his task of packing a suitcase that lay open on the bed.

“Adam, please-“ Jeff started, reaching out a hand and walking closer.

“No way, Jeff. I’m getting my shit and I’m leaving. Chris can move in with you now, isn’t that great?!” Adam asked, tears stinging the corners of his eyes.

“Adam, please, it’s not like that!”

“Oh, really, Jeff? Then what is it, huh? I saw you kissing Jericho! Everyone did! If you don’t love me, you should just come out and say it instead of cheating on me behind my back and leading me on! I won’t stand for it, Jeffery Nero Hardy, I won’t!” Adam yelled, angry tears streaking their ways down his cheeks.

“Adam, Chris kissed me! I didn’t ask him to! I love you, Adam; you’re the only one I want! Please, Adam, don’t do this!” Jeff cried back, grabbing one of Adam’s arms and holding tight. “Don’t do this to me!”

“What, did Chris decide you weren’t good enough so you came crawling back to me?! Jeff, you’re killing me, okay?! I hate what you did to me! In front of all our friends!” Adam turned from Jeff, shoving more of his possessions into the bag before him.

“Adam, I really am sorry! I didn’t want it to happen. I wanted you to be the one in front of me! Please, I love you!”

“Really? Why the hell don’t I believe you? I wish were telling the truth, I really do!” Adam replied coldly. He zipped the bag shut. “Jeff, I really wish you loved me like I love you, but that’s not going to happen, is it?”

“Adam…I love you…with all my heart.”

“I loved you, Jeff, but you broke my heart in two when you kissed Jericho.” Adam said, looking at the floor, a few tears still trickling down his cheeks. “Please, remember me. I will always love you.” He turned to leave when he felt arms around his midsection and a wet spot being pressed against his back.

“Adam, don’t leave. I’ll die if you leave me again. Please? Can we just talk? I-I promise that if you still hate me you can leave. Just let me tell you what happened. I really can’t stand the thought of you walking right out of my life. Adam, you are the one for me, the one I’ve been looking for. Just do this for me? For what we had?”

Adam could still hear and feel Jeff crying into the back of his worn black tee-shirt. He sighed, sitting down on the bed. “Fine, lets hear it.”

Jeff sat next to him, still wearing only a towel. “Well, Chris and I were dancing and you were getting drinks. He-he pushed me to the back of the room and kissed me. He didn’t kiss me like you do…used to. He was fast and hard. But it was like…I couldn’t get away and I couldn’t control my body. He was drunk, I know it.” There was a short silence. “Well? Say something, you’re scaring me!”

“I can’t believe it.” Adam said, staring at the patch of carpet in front of him.

“What?”

“You didn’t want it?” Adam looked at Jeff, tear marks still on his handsome face.

“No, no way, Adam. I wanted you. Jericho was being a drunk asshole. I’m so sorry that you had to see that! I really didn’t want you to have to-“

Adam pressed his lips back against Jeff’s, cutting him off. Jeff wrapped an arm around Adam, feeling him do the same.

“I love you Jeff, and I always will. Thanks for telling the truth.” Adam whispered close to Jeff’s ear.

“I love you so much Adam!” Jeff announced, pulling him back into a kiss.

Adam soon had a tongue in Jeff’s mouth, though he took the kiss slowly. Jeff was laid out on his back, both hands above his head as Adam kneeled over him, still kissing.

“Jeff?”

“Yeah?” Jeff tried to kiss Adam’s lips, and succeeded.

“Would you ever leave me?”

“No way, baby. I love you.”

“Good.” Adam kissed Jeff again, this time slower and more loving than any other kiss they had ever shared.

Jeff lay down next to Adam and felt the blonde lay a small kiss on his forehead. Adam wrapped both arms around Jeff and pulled the smaller man onto his chest. Jeff smiled and fell to sleep to Adam’s murmurings of love and stroking of his hair and back.

Adam smiled as Jeff fell asleep. He had totally forgiven his boyfriend. It was like a slow suicide to be without him. He, too, fell asleep, glad to have Jeffery Nero Hardy back in his arms.
