Our story starts out simple enough. We had all just really noticed Dave Batista for the first time. Our friend, brat, being the information ho that she is, decided to Google him. Brat and myself probably sat there for two hours, trying to find any information on the animal they call Batista. She'd found some interesting things out. As she found these facts, she would yell them into the kitchen, where I was preparing dinner for everyone. (We all get together on Monday's and watch wrestling, and it's usually my job to cook.) When, all of a sudden, I heard her yell, "Oh my God!" Well, her being my best friend and all, I naturally came running.
She was sitting in front of the computer, hands over her mouth in complete astonishment. I asked her what the problem was, after I'd seen she wasn't hurt, and all she said was, "Come here! You have to see this." I walked over to the computer and started reading the words on the screen. I was blown away! Right there, on our computer screen, was a very descriptive scene playing out. What was the scene, you ask?
Dave Batista, and Sean O'Haire having sex! With each other!
We couldn't take our eyes off of it. We read most of the first chapter right then and there. That's about the time that our other best friend, Diva, came over. I heard her car door shut and went for the front door. I started telling her, the minute she walked in, that she had to come see this. She walked into the computer room and started reading it herself. She was just as shocked as we were.
You see, we all live in a small town, or city, or whatever you want to call it. It's the biggest town in the county, but we don't have a mall. (Hopefully, that explains it.) We weren't sheltered, by any stretch of the imagination, and we knew some homosexual people. This should not have shocked us, but it did. Maybe it was the fact that it was Batista and Sean O'Haire, or maybe it was the fact that we never even knew fan fiction existed, not to mention slash fan fiction.
Whatever it was, we were hooked. I'm sure my mother would have been thrilled that I was reading so much. It seemed like that's all we did. We were also lucky enough to stumble upon, what we consider, the best slash fiction site out there. It's called Kliqz Camelot. That's where the Batista/O'Haire story came from. (You can find the link to it on the links page.) It has hundreds of stories on it, and I bet we've read them all.
That's why we had to go searching for other sites. We were totally amazed at the number of sites dedicated to slash wrestling fic. It was mind boggling. We kept reading and reading and, yes, more reading. Some time, during all our reading, Brat, sadly, lost interest. That didn't stop Diva and myself from continuing.
Then, suddenly, one day we were talking about storylines we would really love to see, and couples that we thought would be good together. That's when it hit us. We could write one of these things. Well, at least we thought we could. That first story was horrible, and I am personally glad no one will ever read it. We plugged away at it, though, and didn't get any better.
Then I got the call one day that my mom had passed away. It was sudden, and the first death that had been close to me in many, many years. I didn't know how to plan a funeral, or how I was going to pay for it, or anything. Needless to say, I was a little overwhelmed. Brat and Diva were really my rocks. They didn't tell me how to feel, or what to do, or any of the other "useful" advise that I was getting. they really got me through the tough spots. I still had a lot of Grief bottled up inside me, though. My mother and I weren't on, exactly, the best of terms, and I really didn't take a whole lot of time to let her know how I felt about her. ( Trust me! Tell the people you love, that you love them everyday! ) As much as they tried, my friends couldn't help me with that.
That's when I sat down at my computer, and vowed that I was going to get the knack of this writing thing. I wrote "Grief's Reasoning" that afternoon, and let the girls read it. They told me it was good enough to submit to Camelot, and after about a week's worth of reassurance, I sent it. That started it all.
By the next time I sat down to write, Diva was there with me. We've been a team ever since. Brat helps out with the reader aspect of it. She'll read some of our work after we get done, and tell us weather it's entertaining or not, or we'll run storylines past her. She's a good enough friend that we can trust her to give us an honest opinion.
Thanks for being interested in why we started writing in the first place. Now go read some entertaining stuff.
