The
windows were fogged up. The satisfied, exhausted pants of two men, that couldn’t
be more different from each other, filled the cramped space. The situation was
nothing new to either of them, just the location. Over the course of the last
six months, the two men had been with each other in just about every location
imaginable, but one. A bed. Randy Orton laid his head on Tommy Laughlin’s chest.
The pair were as different as night and day. Randy was a cocky, well built,
pretty boy known as The Legend Killer. Tommy was a down to earth, hard core,
legend in the business known as Tommy Dreamer. Neither man knew what the other
saw in him, but that didn’t stop the love and attraction they had for each
other.
“I’m sick of hiding.” Randy said, listening to Tommy’s heartbeat slow to a
normal level as he curled up beside him in the back of the SUV. “I’m tired of
sleeping alone every night, knowing there’s someone just down the hall that I
want to be with.”
Tommy sighed, feeling the heat from Randy’s breath on his chest. “I know,
Angel.” Tommy said, understanding where the young man was coming from. “It’s not
easy for me either. I’d love to shout our love from the mountain tops, but you
know we can’t.”
“I don’t care.” Randy said, raising his head to look into Tommy’s intense eyes.
“They can’t fire us for loving each other.”
A tear almost came to Tommy’s eye as he looked into the eyes of his young lover.
He could see the frustration there, the hurt that their hiding was causing.
“You’re right, Angel, they can’t fire us for loving each other. But they can
take us off television. They can take away your title shot. They can wait until
our contracts are up and just let us go.”
“I don’t care about any of that, Tommy.” Randy said, propping himself on his
elbow. “I want to be with you. To hell with my career. Vince can have the damn
thing. I’m tired of having to hide who I truly am just because I don’t want to
bang a different Diva every night of the week. I want people to know that I’m
yours. I want to feel your arms around me after a hard match. Hell, I want to
share a room with you and wake up in your arms.”
“Shhh.” Tommy said, gently guiding Randy’s head back to his chest, trying to
calm his love. “I want all that too. But Randy, your an amazing talent. I can’t
sit back and watch you throw all that away just to declare your love for me.
I’ve had a career. I’ve done just about all I can for this business. I did it so
guys like you would have a place to make your dreams come true. We’ll be
together for the rest of our lives, Angel. Don’t throw it away.”
He’d fought it as long as he could. A tear rolled down Randy’s nose, splashing
on Tommy’s chest. “But what if my dreams have changed?” Randy said, quickly
wiping the tear from the legend’s chest. “What if the only thing I dream about
any more is comin’ home to you? You’re right, I don’t wanna throw my career
away, but I can’t go on like this. I’m so scared after your matches. I don’t
know if your really hurt or just playin’ it up for the crowd. I can’t call you
to make sure, so I have to wait for the middle of the night, to get that call
that you want to meet me somewhere. Tommy, it hurts too much.”
Tommy laid in the back of the SUV for a while without saying a word, trying to
find a solution in his head. He couldn’t stand what this was doing to Randy. He
had no idea what the young man saw in him, but the one thing he saw, when he
looked into Randy’s eyes, was love. He couldn’t keep hurting him like this. “I’m
retiring.” Tommy said.
“No.” Randy said, his head jolting up to look Tommy in the eye. “You can’t. I’m
not gonna watch you give up your dreams and your career just because I’m being a
whinny ass baby. That’s not gonna happen.”
“Randy,” Tommy said, wiping another tear from Randy’s cheek. “It’s something
I’ve been thinking about for the longest time. My body’s not what it used to be.
It’s getting harder and harder just to get out of bed in the morning. I need a
rest. And I was thinking that we could get a house together. The only people
that would want my address would understand about us, and I could give Vince
Scott’s address for his files. I’d stay at home, let my body heal and be there
every time you came home.” Randy started to argue, until Tommy placed his finger
on Randy’s lips. “Shhh. Just close your eyes and think about it for a minute.”
Randy had never had thoughts like this in his whole life. Thoughts of coming
home from a long road trip and falling into Tommy’s arms filled his head. A
small smile crept across his face. “Are you sure this is what you want?” Randy
asked, searching his lover’s face for any signs of a lie.
“Angel,” Tommy said, seeing the joy in Randy’s eyes. “This is exactly what I
want. Now, I have a surprise for you.” Randy’s eyes lit up as Tommy reached into
the pocket of his discarded jeans, pulling out a room key. “I got us a room. I
was hoping you’d agree with me about the retirement, and knew we needed a place
to celebrate. It’s ours for two whole nights.”
“I love you Tommy.” Randy said, placing a soft, gentle kiss on Tommy’s lips.
“Let’s get dressed.”
The two men put their cloths back on, awkwardly, but they got them on. Tommy
slid into the driver’s seat of the car and Randy in the passenger seat. The two
drove to a town about an hour away, both looking into the future toward a day
when they would no longer have to hide the truth.
